Chilkoot Trail, June 1998

In late June of 1998, Marlene Braun, Steve Moore, and I hiked the infamous Chilkoot Trail. As a student of northern studies, I had to do it during the trail's Centennial year. It was an amazing trip, with great weather most of the time (when you see white skies in these photos, it is mostly because the picture is washing out the sky).

The order of pictures is roughly chronological. Since we hiked the trail in the traditional south to north direction (Dyea to Lake Bennett), you can see how the country changes from the rain forests of southeast Alaska to the rocky Chilkoot pass to the tundra and down into the spruce forests of the Yukon.
